I took Claire to the vet on Saturday. I was pretty concerned about her weight loss and as it turned out she’s lost nearly 50% of her body weight- at her last checkup she weighed over 11 pounds and now she weighs just 6lbs3oz. They called me today with the results of her blood tests, and she has diabetes, which I didn’t even know cats could get! I have to take her in on Wednesday evening and learn how to do her twice-daily insulin shots. Fun! She’s going to hate me.

I guess so? I’m not really sure yet, I have to take her into the vet and they’ll teach me all about it then.
well, you are all in my thoughts. claire is a tough kitty, she’ll take those shots like a champ. hopefully, she’ll understand and not attack you for it.

My friend’s cat was also diabetic and she lived ages after her regimen started! Good luck with teh kitteh I hope she does better!
I’m glad you have an answer now for her strange and sudden weight loss, though it’s a sucky diagnosis. I hope everything gets better from here on out though! Poor Claire 🙁

I didn’t know that cats could get diabetes. Wow. Poor Claire. I guess it’s not the sort of diabetes that can be controlled through her diet?
Nope, she’ll need insulin injections. Some people have told me about their diabetic cats that have lived for years and years after their diagnoses so I’m not worried.
